Is It True That I Can Get Taller Going to a Chiropractor?
Many of us adults daydream about being just a little bit taller than we are right now. Nothing too obscene, mind you — it’s not like we want to go from 5-feet-9 inches tall to 6-5 overnight. But an inch or two would be nice, right? Some of our practice members even insist they occasionally feel those few extra inches tacked on after an adjustment. But can you really get taller going to the chiropractor?
It’s a fair question. After all, consistent spinal adjustments keep your bones and joints in proper alignment, improve mobility, and relieve discomfort by creating more space within the spine.
So by creating more space within the spine, it gets longer, right — which makes you taller?
Well, not necessarily!
FEELING Taller After Chiropractic Care and Being PHYSICALLY Taller Aren’t the Same Thing
No chiropractor worth their salt will claim they can make you taller with consistently gentle and specific chiropractic adjustments. And that includes us — though all of our practice members know we’d give them the world if we could. So the answer to the question above is a resounding “no.” Adult bodies can’t get taller through chiropractic adjustments.
However … it is possible to feel and even look taller by getting the most out of your maximum height. Here’s how:
1. Your posture improves, helping you stand up straighter rather than slouch all the time.
2. Since dysfunctions are being eliminated, you feel better, move better, and carry yourself differently because you aren’t in pain.
3. Neck adjustments can help you carry your head straighter and taller.
As a result, you may appear an inch or two taller than before — even though your physical height is the same.
In reality, chiropractic adjustments aren’t the same for every patient, just like no two chiropractic patients’ ongoing care plans are created the same. Without getting too technical, the circumstances that lead each person into our office here at Compassion Family Chiropractic in Lewisville, TX, are dramatically different — even if their symptoms or pain are similar. Their spinal alignments are also unique, as is their posture, pain levels, range of motion, medical histories, etc.
A chiropractor’s job is to employ a variety of gentle and specific chiropractic adjustments to correct the root issues of your pain and dysfunction throughout the entire spine. And if you FEEL taller afterward, then consider it a bonus!
